The Pakistan cricket team’s recent thrashing at the hands of England came as a great shock, all the more so because it was on home soil. This historic victory for England on Pakistani soil laid bare our team’s weaknesses. Despite investing in so many pro players, our team continues to face embarrassing setbacks. Flat pitches have become our players’ nemesis, leaving them with no choice but to struggle. Where is the aggression? Our bowlers failed to deliver even three bouncers to show some fight. The English team was never challenged and our batsmen made a mockery of their skills in the second innings.
Scoring over 500 runs in the first innings and then losing six wickets in a session in the second innings is unacceptable. This collapse is a shame for every Pakistan cricket fan. We take cricket seriously but our players seem to take it for granted. After a historic whitewash by Bangladesh, also on home soil, this latest defeat raises serious questions about Pakistan’s test cricket future. I fear for the future of Pakistan test cricket with this team.
