Cowboys vs. Steelers Sunday Night Football score, live updates: Classic NFL rivalry renewed after nearly 90-minute weather delay

A familiar refrain surrounding the Dallas Cowboys over the past few seasons is that Dak Prescott is a stat monster that can’t get the job done in the win column in Dallas. Prescott is third in the league in passing yards for the 2-2 Cowboys and while the offense has been moving the ball through the air, it’s the defense that has gotten the bulk of the negative headlines in this early part of the year. While Dallas only allowed 26 rushing yards to the Giants, the team still ranks near the bottom of the NFL in rush defense and will be without interior lineman Demarcus Lawrence for at least a month due to a foot injury.

That could be a good combination for the 3-1 Steelers, who boast an offense that’s in the top-10 in the league in rushing and is committed to the ground game with quarterback Justin Fields still finding his footing. Russell Wilson is nearing a return from a calf injury, but with a dominant defense — second in points allowed, fourth in yards allowed — Mike Tomlin may just need a game manager on offense to jump out to 4-1 and an early lead in the AFC North over the surging Baltimore Ravens.

    With Dallas driving, Nick Herbig and T.J. Watt met in the backfield at Dak Prescott to force a fumble that Herbig jumped on to end the Cowboys drive, Also on the Play, Watt became the second fastest player in NFL history (109 games, Reggie White got there in 96 — and second player in his family history (J.J. Watt has 114.5 sacks — to reachg 100 career NFL sacks.

    Rico Dowdle’s 12-yard run — after another big catch by CeeDee Lamb — has Dallas set up in scoring position at the 15-yard-line.

    Linval Joseph forced a Justin Fields fumble — that Fields was able to jump on — which backed the Steelers up into a a 3rd and 24. Fields was forcet to throw the ball away on that third down and Dallas takes over at their own 24

    Dallas could be in trouble on the edge, not just because of inexperience, but just a lack of bodies in uniform. Chauncey Golston, Carl Lawson and Tyrus Wheat are available after Kneeland.

    Two penalties on the drive hurt Dallas. On first down, Tyler Guyton was called for a false start, and on a 3rd and 1, the Cowboys went fast, and the Steelers pass rush got to Prescott quickly, forcing a throwaway that wound up being flagged for intentional grounding.

  • Steelers move the bal into Dallas territory on first drive, tie the game

    Justin Fields completed 2-of-4 passes and rushed for 13 yards on the first drive, but Chris Boswell was able to knock in a 41-yard field goal to tie the game. Najee Harris also had a 15 year reception on the opening series.

  • More injury trouble for the Dallas defense

    Kneeland started tonight in place of Micah Parsons and Demarcus Lawrence, and the Cowboys are thin at the EDGE position on their front line.

  • Cowboys take the opening kickoff

    Dak Prescott completes his first three passes to get Dallas into Steelers territory, before Pittsburgh forces a Brandon Aubrey 55-yard field goal to put Dallas up 3-0. The wet conditions didn’t seem to bother Aubrey at all, who nailed the kick with room to spare.

  • With all this rain in Pittsburgh, it brings up memories of the Steelers-Dolphins “Mud Bowl” in 2007

    The turf at the Steelers’ home stadium has been upgraded since then, but this game — which the Steelers won 3-0 on a Monday night — featured one of the most iconic weather-related moments in NFL history with a Brandon Fields punt that got stuck in the mud.
