Could Saquon Barkley actually win NFL MVP? Oddsmakers suggest yes

Saquon Barkley has flown up the MVP odds rankings since he posted a career-best game on “Sunday Night Football.”

The ex-Giant and Eagles star running back has skyrocketed to +500 odds to win the NFL MVP award at DraftKings, up from the 75/1 it was on FanDuel early last week.

He sits behind only Bills quarterback Josh Allen (+150) and Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson (+250).

Barkley accumulated 302 total yards and two touchdowns against the Rams in a career-best performance during the Eagles’ 37-20 win.

The Giants’ former No. 2 pick in 2018 signed with the Eagles in free agency and is set to make $13.5 million this season and could earn an additional $3 million if he continues his excellent performances.

Barkley’s standout performance also pushed his odds to win Offensive Player of the Year from +120 on BetMGM to clear favorites status at -300 odds.

He had previously been in a tight race with fellow free-agent acquisition, Ravens running back Derrick Henry.

Barkley is now projected to run for 2,151 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns, which would break the all-time single-season rushing record.

Just eight players have run for 2,000-plus yards in a season, with the most-recent being Henry in 2020.

Eric Dickerson owns the record for rushing yards with 2,105 yards in 1984.

The MVP odds movement comes just as The Post’s Doug Kezirian advised readers to wager on Barkley to win the NFL MVP award at 75/1 odds.

Barkley claiming the award would go against history, though.

Betting on the NFL?

A running back hasn’t won the NFL MVP award since 2012, when Adrian Peterson won after accumulating 2,097 rushing yards.

Should Barkley reach that level of success in the City of Brotherly Love, it could be quite tough to deny him the hardware.
