The overall numbers for private sector employment were not good, according to the New York State Department of Labor who reported the state was down about 8,100 jobs in August. Private sector jobs only grew in the U.S. by .1% for the month of August.
For Cortland County though, the news was better, Cortland County saw a 3.5% increase in the number of nonfarm jobs available in the county when compared to August 2023. The DOL reports Cortland County added 600 more jobs bringing a total of 17,700 jobs available within the county.
Neighboring Tompkins County also saw a growth when compared to August of last year to this year; the county had an increase of 1% bringing the total number of jobs in Tompkins County to 59,300. In August 2023, Tompkins County reported to have had 58,700 jobs.
