The Bixby football team in December won its seventh consecutive Oklahoma state championship. One of the Spartans’ star players made his college choice public on Friday.
Cord Nolan, who racked up 108 tackles last season at linebacker, announced a commitment to the Texas Tech football team. Nolan is a junior this year on a team that beat previously undefeated Owasso 43-42 in overtime for the Oklahoma Class 6A-I state championship.
Bixby lists Nolan at 6-foot and 203 pounds. Included in his triple-digit tackles total are 17 tackles for loss and five sacks. He also had an interception and a fumble recovery. Playing tight end on offense, Nolan caught 35 passes for 522 yards and four TDs in 2024 and caught 23 passes for 632 yards and 10 TDs the year before.
The Oklahoman last month ranked him No. 10 on its initial Super 30 list of the state’s top recruits for 2026.
According to recruiting services, five other Big 12 programs also have offered Nolan a scholarship: Arizona State, Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas and Kansas State. Others who have offered him a scholarship are Boston College, Missouri, Purdue, Stanford, Colorado State, Nevada-Las Vegas, North Texas and Tulsa.
Recruits for the 2026 class can sign in December. Tech has commitments from six recruits. The first five came from Georgetown East View linebacker Tieson Ejiawoko (6-3, 226), Mount Pleasant defensive tackle Ayden Johnson (6-1, 315), New Braunfels Canyon defensive back Luke Bell (6-0, 175) and Amarillo Tascosa defensive tackle Krush Johnson (6-4, 275).
