Controversies are never too far away when the names are Nick Kyrgios and Piers Morgan. Both are vastly experienced in their respective fields. One is a tennis player, and the other one is a media personality. No matter what they do, they have this unique ability to draw controversies towards them! That’s quite an astonishing similarity to have, isn’t it? Kyrgios recently invited Morgan to the ‘Good Trouble’ video podcast. During the show, they were spotted, revealing some of the most controversial moments in their careers. Do you know Piers Morgan was once “banned” for life by the All England Club?
Well, these two gentlemen have a long history of controversies between them! For example, during the 2016 Wimbledon Championships when Nick Kyrgios lost his R16 match to Andy Murray, Piers Morgan was seen calling the Aussie, a “d—-e” and an “a—–e” on separate occasions during his run to the championship match at SW19. Even in 2022, when Kyrgios lost the final against Novak Djokovic, the renowned journalist wrote, “Kyrgios is such a monumental a–hole. Imagine hurling constant foul-mouthed abuse in a Wimbledon final at your own support team/family for YOUR bad shots?“
Morgan even didn’t look too happy when Kyrgios was spotted eating sushi while ripping “disrespectful fans” during one of his Wimbledon conferences. However, seeing them in a single frame even after all these, led us to think perhaps things have become more friendly between the two nowadays. Recently, during the conversation, Piers Morgan was seen recalling a moment from his early career days. “I covered the Wimbledon tennis. In fact one of the first scoops I ever had was I infiltrated security at Wimbledon Tennis,“ he told Nick Kyrgios.

Piers Morgan further added, “I got into the Royal Box, I got into the players’ dressing room, I was 19 and I got banned for life by the All England Club. The chairman, Buzzer Hadingham wrote to the newspapers, editors and said that I’d never be allowed to cross the hallow turf again.” However, later on, we saw Morgan at this iconic tournament, though! Speaking on that he said, “They haven’t kept it up, I’ve been back, but I was actually given a lifetime ban for exposing genuine security issues.”
Not only that, Morgan revealed, “I managed to be literally having a Gin and tonic in the Royal box right on a match day during the tournament. I got into the players’ dressing room, was talking to players. I was a reporter from The Wimbledon News.” Absolute madness, isn’t it? But that’s how these two characters love being like, right? So, controversies always find a way to reach them! Then in another part of this recent video clip, Piers Morgan was seen telling Nick Kyrgios, “Being called controversial by you is really quite something.”
Morgan claimed, “I like being at the center of controversy. I like being at the center of the debate. I like putting my head over the parapet, saying what I think, and being challenged about it. I’m probably the least opinionated person in my family.” Following Piers Morgan’s assertion about being the least opinionated person in the family; Nick Kyrgis was heard saying that he’s the “least crazy by the way.” They love “staying in trouble,” and this wasn’t the first time that we saw these two ‘troublemakers’ in a single frame.
In November 2023, Nick Kyrgios appeared at the ‘Piers Morgan Uncensored.’ During that time, Kyrgios hilariously made a comment saying, “Sometimes you are a bit of a (expletive). I can be a d–che on the tennis court… I think we’re very alike.” We’ve seen one of the biggest controversial moments featuring Piers Morgan in Wimbledon. Does Nick Kyrgios have any such experiences in his career? Wait a minute! The question should be: How many controversial moments Kyrgios had in Wimbledon?

If we go by the timeline, in 2015 Nick Kyrgios received a code of conduct during his third-round match. Reason? Well, he slammed his racquet so hard that it flew into the stands. Later on, he was also spotted arguing with a female spectator who yelled something at the player and began laughing. In the same tournament, during his fourth-round match against Richard Gasquet, Nick Kyrgios was accused of tanking. For example, he didn’t seem to try returning a few of the serves. However, he dismissed the claims later on in the press conference.

Then in 2022, quite a few incidents took place. He had previously received fines of a total of $14,000 for two offenses- spitting towards a fan after his R1 match and then for swearing in a fiery R3 clash with Stefanos Tsitsipas. However, even after all these, Nick Kyrgios was spotted poking his nose at authority and Wimbledon’s all-white clothing rules during his R4 match against Brandon Nakashima. He walked on the court wearing red trainers in that match. He played in white shoes but after his 5-set win changed back into the red ones and also wore a red cap during his on-court interview.
When asked the reasons for deliberately breaking the rules of wearing white while on the court, he said, “Because I do what I want.” Is he above the rules, then? In reply to this the Aussie said, “No, I’m not above the rules. I just like wearing my Jordans. That’s okay. I’ll wear some Triple Whites tomorrow.” Share your thoughts on these controversial moments featuring these two controversial figures at Wimbledon.
