MUSKEGON, MI – Conference dominance was on full display Thursday in the West Michigan Conference, as several girls basketball teams picked up lopsided wins in league action.
Mason County Central, Shelby, Whitehall and Hart all used fast starts and strong finishes to cruise past their conference opponents and pick up some positive momentum heading into the weekend.
Below is a recap of how all the Muskegon-area high school basketball teams fared on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2025.

GIRLS
—
Mason County Central 55, Hesperia 11
The Spartans jumped out to a 43-5 lead in the first half and continued to roll past the Panthers the rest of the game for a convincing win in West Michigan Conference action on Thursday night.
Mallory Miller scored a game-high 20 points to lead Mason County Central, while Evangeline Hradel added 16 points and five rebounds, Jaycee Myer had a career-high 13 points and seven rebounds and Hannah Thurow had nine rebounds and four assists.
“After a slow start, we were able to get some transition going from some defensive stops,” said Mason County Central head coach Brian Beebe. “In the middle of a five-game stretch in 11 days, it was good to see some energy from our team tonight.
“Eva did a really good job at the high post against their zone tonight and Mallory knocked down some early jumpers to get us going.”
Mason County Central (4-6) will travel to Glen Lake on Saturday, while Hesperia (0-9) will travel to Orchard View (1-10).

Shelby 49, Muskegon Catholic Central 23
The Tigers opened the game on a 21-1 run and continued to cruise past the Crusaders for a convincing win in non-conference action Thursday night.
Brylee Friedman led Shelby with 12 points, while Jayna Burmeister added a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Shelby (9-1) will be back in action on Monday as they host Brethren, while Muskegon Catholic Central (4-5) hosts Wellspring Prep on Friday night.

Whitehall 55, Orchard View 21
The Vikings rolled past the Cardinals on Thursday night to improve to 8-4 overall and 3-3 in the West Michigan Conference Lakes Division.
Lexi Daggett finished with 20 points to lead Whitehall, while Clare Westerland added 12 points, Sidney Shepherd and Peyton Schultz each had six points and Janie Fagan had five points.
Elixis Scott and Kadence Day each scored five points to pace Orchard View (1-10).

Hart 64, Holton 31
The Pirates came out focused and ready to roll Thursday, as they raced out to a 18-4 lead in the first quarter and continued to pull away from the Red Devils the rest of the way for a convincing win in West Michigan Conference Rivers Division action.
Addi Hovey finished with 20 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and five steals to pace Hart, while Reese Smith added 13 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, four steals and one block, Breslyn Porter had 13 points, three assists, three steals and one block, and Kelsey Copenhaver had six points, nine rebounds and two steals.
Hart (10-1) will host Cadillac on Jan. 22, while Holton (4-6) will host Walkerville on Monday.

Mason County Central 55, Hesperia 31
The Spartans held a narrow 19-17 advantage at halftime but outscored the Panthers 36-14 in the final two quarters of action to roll to a convincing win Thursday night.
Cole VanderHaag scored 21 points, including 11 in the third quarter, to lead Mason County Central, while Trent Hawke added seven points and Kyle Peters and Jaxon Munoz each added six points.
Jared Tanner scored nine points to lead Hesperia, while Ethan O’Neil grabbed 10 rebounds.
Mason County Central (8-5) will host Fremont (3-9) next Tuesday, while Hesperia (4-9) will travel to Holland Black River (3-8).
