BURNSVILLE, N.C. (WBTV) – An energy company is bringing 150 jobs to western North Carolina as part of its $175 million investment in Yancey County.
Paradigm Energy and Storage will make its headquarters on an approximately 85-acre property on Route 19E in Burnsville, county officials said.
Yancey County said the company is “an innovative producer of energy solutions,” and is “poised to revolutionize the energy sector in North Carolina.”
In a Facebook post, the county said Paradigm Energy and Storage “offers a unique blend of direct energy solutions, including solar energy production, battery storage, and renewable energy transport.” In a separate post, Yancey County Commissioner Jeff Whitson talked about capabilities of the company’s products.
“This is a momentous announcement for Yancey County and we whole-heartedly welcome Paradigm Energy and Storage, LLC,” County Manager Lynn Austin said in a news release.
In the release, Whitson said he is “excited for the positive impact” he anticipates the company will bring.
Paradigm Energy and Storage comes to an area that was battered by Hurricane Helene in September 2024. During that storm, countless people lost their homes, property was destroyed and 11 people died in Yancey County alone, according to state numbers.
Another company, Pratt & Whitney, is also working to create hundreds of jobs in western North Carolina. On Jan. 28, Gov. Josh Stein said Pratt & Whitney was expanding its turbine airfoil manufacturing plant in Asheville as part of a $285 million expansion. That growth was expected to create 325 new jobs.
