GROVETOWN, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – One of the ways we can get an idea of how much a county is growing is by looking at plans for possible future projects.
A potential multi-sports training complex is a great example of how Columbia County continues to grow.
Right now it’s just trees and grass, but it could soon be home to a football field, shopping space, or even a hotel.
It all started at a coffee shop for Dr. John Bojescul and Samuel Lilly.
The pair is working to build a multi-sports facility focused on giving back to Columbia County.
“We just want to be a place where you come in enjoy yourself, really, truly, have a community hub,” said Lilly, Accelerated Athletics Community Hub CEO.
They say this will provide something for almost every athlete.
A pool for swimmers, an outdoor track and field that can be converted into a soccer, lacrosse, or football field, a space for cross country, flag football, basketball courts, volleyball, pickleball, indoor track and a gym.
“We’re going to have a lot of activity for kids who have disabilities, and really get them out there and let them play games and work with them there as well,” said Lilly.
The name of the company is called Accelerated Athletics Community Hub, and they say the goal is in the name–providing a sense of community.
It’s located just across from Patriots Park, but they say they have no plans of taking away from the park.
“She goes, I like your ideas, your project. Why don’t you just take the whole thing for this price?,” said Bojescul.
“Whatever they can’t do, they can send that to us. Whatever we can’t do, we can send them and whatever we can do together. That’s the main goal,” said Lilly.
They expect this facility to bring an economic boost too, creating at least 100 jobs in the facility.
Tyson Keresa lives near Patriots Park and says he and his wife spend a lot of time watching their kids play sports and even working out themselves.
“We would love to do it without having to spend hours on the road, getting to getting to the August Aquatic Center. Some people are spending more time, you know, getting there and trying to find out, find carpool rides and whatnot,” said Keresa.
If the proposal passes through the Columbia County Board of Commissioners, the project is expected to be complete by the beginning of 2026.
