The popular mainstream football game Madden NFL 25 has released its quarterback ratings for all such players at the position—and the initial rating of 74 overall for Indianapolis Colts’ 2nd-year quarterback Anthony Richardson admittedly feels a little low:
The five NFL quarterbacks currently ranked right above Richardson are: Trevor Lawrence (76 overall), Justin Fields (76 overall), Derek Carr (75 overall), Russell Wilson (75 overall), and Deshaun Watson (74 overall).
Right below him are Kenny Pickett (73 overall), Sam Howell (73 overall), Pro Bowler Gardner Minshew (72 overall), Andy Dalton (72 overall), and Bryce Young (72 overall) respectively.
Look, I know Richardson had a very limited sample size as a rookie—as he was limited to just 4 starts before a season-ending shoulder injury. That being said, he scored 7 touchdowns during that same span and was tantalizing as a dual-threat rookie starting quarterback.
Madden is a video game where loud physical tools typically pay off, particularly at starting quarterback on the virtual football field.
I mean… I’m reminiscing when former Atlanta Falcons star quarterback Mike Vick was the cover boy and practically unstoppable in Madden 2004, with his blazing speed and rocket arm. . . . and I’m a little shocked that Richardson doesn’t come in with a higher overall rating given his truly special combination of speed, athleticism, and bazooka of an arm.
Quite frankly, Richardson is exactly the young quarterback prototype you want in Madden—especially in franchise mode (where he’ll only develop and get better in time, just like in real life!), with his very loud physical tools and potential ‘Superman’ heroics out there.
I’m not saying he should be in the 90’s for overall ratings yet, but I think something in the high 70’s-low 80’s would’ve been a more accurate reflection of his talent and ability.
