Star Colorado State wide receiver Tory Horton will miss the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury against San Jose State.
The Rams announced Monday night that Horton was out for the second half of the season.
“I am very sad to announce that Tory Horton will undergo a season-ending procedure from an injury sustained in our game against San Jose State and will not return this season,” coach Jay Norvell said in a statement.
“This will end the career of the two-time captain and one of the best players in Colorado State and Mountain West history. He was on the brink of accomplishing several career milestones at CSU and the Mountain West, including just 35 yards short of becoming the all-time Mountain West receiving yards leader.”
Horton returned to Colorado State for the 2024 season after back-to-back 1,100 yard-seasons. Horton spent the first two years of his career at Nevada before transferring to CSU ahead of the 2022 season when the school hired Norvell from the Wolf Pack.
Horton had 71 catches for 1,131 yards and eight touchdowns in 2022 before significantly increasing his catch total in 2023. A season ago, Horton had 96 crabs for 1,131 yards and eight scores.
This season, Horton had 26 catches for 353 yards and a TD over five games. He’d also been hobbled by a groin injury earlier in the year.
Horton’s career ends with 3,615 career receiving yards. The all-time MWC receiving leader is former Colorado State wide receiver Rashard Higgins. He tallied 3,649 yards over three seasons thanks to an incredible 2014 season that included 96 catches for 1,750 yards and 17 TDs.
