Michigan football outlook heading to undefeated Indiana Hoosiers
Reacting after Michigan’s 38-17 loss to No. 1 Oregon, and looking ahead to the final three games, Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024 at Michigan Stadium.
Four Big Ten teams entered Saturday’s schedule of games ranked inside the top 10 of the latest US LBM Coaches Poll and AP Top 25.
That will not change heading into Week 12, with No. 1 Oregon, No. 3 Ohio State, No. 7 Penn State and No. 10 Indiana all winning in Week 11. Indeed, in every game but the Hoosiers’, the Big Ten’s best teams blew their respective opponents.
No. 1 Oregon (10-0, 7-0 in Big Ten play) managed to hold off Maryland (4-5, 1-5) with a 39-18 win vs. the Terrapins in Eugene. Perhaps more interesting than the score, however, was the fact Ducks quarterback Dillon Gabriel became the NCAA’s all-time leader in touchdowns.
Elsewhere, No. 3 Ohio State and No. 7 Penn State beat Purdue 45-0 and Washington 35-6, respectively, outscoring their opponents by a combined score of 80-6.
Michigan’s (5-5, 3-4) game at Indiana (10-0, 7-0) was the only real challenge among top-10 teams in the Big Ten in Week 11. The Wolverines fought back from a 17-3 halftime deficit, scoring on three drives — two field goals and a touchdown — before Indiana could respond with a field goal of its own. Michigan had a chance for a go-ahead score, but turned the ball over on downs at its own 42 on its final drive of the game, falling 20-15 to the Hoosiers.
Here’s a look at how this past week’s results in the Big Ten were reflected in the US LBM Coaches Poll and AP Top 2:
