Ohio State takes on Oregon in a rematch Wednesday from one of the best college football games this season.
The No. 8 Buckeyes (10-2) face the No. 1 Ducks (13-0) in the CFP quarterfinals at the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day, after OSU fell to Oregon 32-31 on the road in a matchup that came down to the final drive.
Ohio State quarterback Will Howard scrambled for 12 yards on the final play of the game, but didn’t fall down fast enough as time expired.
The Buckeyes and Ducks are among a number of college football teams to face an opponent in the postseason that it also played against during the regular season. The Ohio State-Oregon winner will play in the Cotton Bowl for a spot in the national championship.

No. 8 Ohio State dominated Tennessee, 42-17, in the first round of the CFP in Columbus to reach the Rose Bowl against Oregon, as the Ducks earned a first-round bye after winning the Big Ten championship game.
Oregon-Ohio State part two will be the site of ESPN’s “College GameDay” on Wednesday at one of college football’s most historic sites in the Rose Bowl.
The game is shaping up to be one of the best in the sport this season.
Georgia completed revenge against Alabama in the 2022 national championship, as the Bulldogs lost, 41-24, to the Crimson Tide in the SEC championship game before turning around and dominating Alabama, 33-18, in the national championship.
The game was the first of Georgia’s back-to-back national championships, as it defeated TCU the next season.
Former walk-on quarterback Stetson Bennett, who was a Heisman Trophy finalist the next season, completed 17 of 26 passes for 224 yards with two touchdowns in the game.
There were no touchdowns scored in No. 1 LSU and No. 2 Alabama’s 2011 regular season game, as the Tigers bested the Crimson Tide, 9-6, in overtime in that season’s version of “The Game of the Century.”
Alabama had no trouble with LSU the second time around, however, as it held LSU scoreless and hung 21 points on the stout defense to claim its second national championship under coach Nick Saban.
The Crimson Tide held the Tigers to an abysmal 92 total yards of offense, with only 53 passing yards and 39 rushing yards.
Miami entered the final two weeks of the season undefeated after beating Florida State, 22-14, in the regular season, but lost back-to-back games against Virginia Tech and Tennessee to fall out of the BCS national championship game.
The Hurricanes still earned a spot in the Orange Bowl, facing conference foe Florida State again.
Miami got the same result again, defeating Florida State, 16-14, despite starting the game with a 14-3 deficit. Funny enough, the two teams kicked off the 2004 regular season against each other again, with Miami going 3-for-3 and winning 16-10 for their third matchup in 13 months.
