On Tuesday, CBS Sports’ Gary Parrish updated his college basketball Top 25 and 1 rankings. With a win on Monday, Houston took a notable leap in Parrish’s rankings while other teams fell.
While Houston had an excellent start to the week, the Big 12 still isn’t at the top of the college basketball world this season. The SEC leads all conferences with nine teams in Parrish’s Top 25 and 1 rankings.
Of course, Parrish still gave due respect to the other top-performing programs around the country, as well. With so many teams to discuss, let’s dive into Parrish’s latest college basketball Top 25 and 1 rankings.
Previous Ranking: 1
Auburn still reigns supreme in Parrish’s updated rankings. On Saturday, the Tigers comfortably defeated Georgia 82-70. Auburn star Johni Broome was spectacular in the win, racking up 31 points and 14 rebounds while shooting 11-18 from the field.
He wasn’t the only one with a hot hand for the Tigers. Auburn had four starters score double figures against the Bulldogs. It was a team effort for the Tigers, who recorded 17 assists on their 27 made field goals.

Duke retained its No. 2 spot in Parrish’s rankings this past weekend after dealing a 110-67 shellacking to Illinois. The Blue Devils had a whopping seven players score double digits in the win.
Freshman star Cooper Flagg was a standout, as usual. Flagg stuffed the stat sheet in the win, notching 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists on 5-10 shooting. With the victory, Duke improved to 24-3 on the season.

Houston finally cracked Parrish’s top three this week after defeating No. 10 Texas Tech 69-61 on Monday. It was the Cougars’ second-straight win over a ranked opponent after they defeated Iowa State in the previous game.
With the win, Houston clinched at least a share of the Big 12 regular-season title. It’s worth noting that Texas Tech was without two of its top three leading scorers, Chance McMillian and Darrion Williams, who both have lower-body injuries.
Previous Ranking: 3
Florida is no longer in Parrish’s top three but it’s more than capable of defeating any of the teams in it. On Saturday, the Gators took care of business against LSU, running away with a 79-65 triumph.
In the win, Florida sophomore Rueben Chinyelu erupted for a career-high 19 points while also reeling in 13 rebounds. It was a comeback effort for the Gators, who trailed LSU 37-31 at halftime. With starting forward Alex Condon set to return after missing three games, Florida could be playing its best ball of the season come tournament time.
Previous Ranking: 4
On Saturday, Alabama bounced back from back-to-back losses with a 96-83 win over Kentucky. It was a must-have win for the Crimson Tide. Kentucky was without starting guards Jaxson Robinson and Lamont Butler, and a loss would’ve been detrimental to Alabama’s NCAA Tournament résumé.
Mark Sears didn’t allow the Wildcats to pull off the upset, exploding for 30 points, four rebounds and four assists in the win. Sears shot a perfect 11-11 from the charity stripe. Aden Holloway added 19 points off the bench to Alabama’s winning effort.
Previous Ranking: 6
Tennessee marched into College Station on Saturday and emerged with a 77-69 win over Texas A&M. Tennessee had a midweek bye ahead of the game and it showed. The Volunteers played with extreme urgency, and never let their foot off the gas.
Chaz Lanier was particularly excellent, collecting a season-high 30 points on 8-13 shooting from 3-point range. Of course, veteran guard Zakai Zeigler did his part as well, recording 16 points and seven assists against the Aggies.
Previous Ranking: 7
Michigan State declared itself the crown program in the Great Lake State on Friday with a hard-fought 75-62 win over Michigan. With the victory, Michigan State secured sole possession of first place in the Big Ten standings.
Michigan State’s backcourt duo of Jase Richardson and Jaden Atkins proved deadly against the Wolverines. The pair combined for 32 points and nine rebounds in the win while only committing two turnovers.
Previous Ranking: 8
Despite suffering a 68-59 loss against Houston on Saturday, Iowa State didn’t fall in Parrish’s rankings. After all, losing to the Cougars is nothing to be ashamed of.
In the loss, Iowa State struggled to find a shooting rhythm, shooting just 39.1% from the field. With four games left in the season, the Cyclones can’t allow the ugly performance to snowball.
Previous Ranking: 9
Wisconsin suffered an unexpected hit to its résumé this week, falling 77-73 to Oregon in overtime on Saturday. It was a sloppy showing for the Badgers, who committed 17 turnovers against the Ducks.
Oregon capitalized on Wisconsin’s mistakes, scoring 24 points off turnovers. Despite ending up on the wrong end of the contest, Wisconsin guard John Tonje still had a solid showing, recording points and seven rebounds.
