HASTINGS – The Coldwater Cardinal boys varsity soccer team stayed undefeated in the Interstate 8 Conference after their road trip to Hastings on Thursday, coming away with a dominant 5-1 victory over the Saxons.
Coldwater got on the board just moments into the contest as Liam Clark scored an unassisted goal just 1:17 into the game to make it 1-0.
The Cardinals added to their lead eight minutes later as Austin Accardi scored on a corner kick, assisted by Sebastian Ocampo, making it 2-0.
Coldwater wasted little time adding to that tally as just a minute later Dawood Gabry found the back of the net, assisted by Essam Ahmed, making it 3-0.
Hastings scored their lone goal on a penalty kick with 14:54 left to play in the first half, closing the score to 3-1.
Coldwater put things away in the second half however, as the Cardinals netted two goals in the first five minutes to put the game away. Coldwater scored first on an Ocampo goal, assisted by Clark, followed by Clark’s second goal of the game, assisted by Accardi.
Franky Ramos made three saves in goal for the win, with all three saves coming in the first half as the Cardinals outshot Hastings 20-9.
Coldwater will be back in action Tuesday when they host the Marshall Redhawks for a huge Interstate 8 conference battle. With a win, the Cardinals will secure an Interstate 8 Conference championship.
In the junior varsity game, the Coldwater JV Cardinals rolled past Hastings by the score of 7-0 in a game that ended at halftime due to darkness.
BATTLE CREEK – The Coldwater Cardinal girls’ golf team traveled to Cedar Creek Golf Course in Battle Creek on Wednesday for the Interstate 8 championship.
Harper Creek continued their domination of the conference, winning the event with a team score of 368 to claim the conference crown. Marshall and Jackson Northwest ended the regular season tied for second place in the conference.
Coldwater put together their best showing of the season on Wednesday, missing out on tying for fifth place with a score of 419, the Cardinals best round of the season.

Leading the Cardinal effort was McKinley Earles with a 97, followed by Claire Hawver who had a 106. Also adding to the Coldwater effort was Julianna Cowles and Haper Anglin, both of whom shot a 108; Drew Sharpley who carded a 111; and Alivia Arnold who shot a 122 to round out the scoring.
Kaia Brunell of Parma Western was Medalist for the tournament after shooting an 85, while the Harper Creek trio of Ellie Sandel, Arabella Stanley, and Haley Willi took second through fourth place.
Harper Creek freshman Willi earned the top spot in the final conference standings, followed by Bruneel, Stanley, and Sandel. Rounding out the Interstate 8 First Team are Zadie Zuehlke of Marshall; Melia Piloske of Northwest; and Anna Thompson of Mashall.
Interstate 8 Honorable Mention honors went to Jaedyn Bartell, Jackson Northwest; Lilli Edger, Hastings; Sophia Greenfield, Hastings; Aubrey Tarkiewicz, Marshall; Cami Boldt of Parma Western; Braylee Stanley, Harper Creek; Audrey Flandes, Harper Creek; and Mya Warner of Northwest.
