Coco Gauff has come under plenty of fire in recent times, but she has been enjoying herself on court of late.
Gauff split with coach Brad Gilbert after a failed US Open title defence, having won her one and only Grand Slam title at the event in 2023.
But the youngster’s rapid rise has often gone against her, with many having expected Gauff to really push on from that 2023 US Open title.
The American is now firmly focused on a strong WTA Finals tournament, with Gauff changing her serve under new coach Matt Daly.
It is an area of her game that has come under plenty of scrutiny in recent times, but the 20-year-old has still clinched success on the court.
After a US Open round of 16 exit, Gauff recovered by winning the China Open, before reaching the Wuhan Open semi-finals.
She has also just won her WTA Finals opener against Jessica Pegula, with Gauff using the criticism towards her to her advantage.
“I honestly think maybe just because of how I entered the scene – people are very critical of me,” she told The National. “I take it as a compliment.

“Maybe they’re critical about people that they feel like can do better, so I just try to be better. I feel like, just certain comments, I guess maybe another player would maybe do the same result as me and I get crucified for it and they get applauded.
“So it’s tough sometimes. And sometimes I do want to clap back, but I just try to remember, when I win, I’ll be like, that’s going to be my clap back. So I do see it. It does motivate me.”
Gauff quite simply doesn’t need to answer to anyone, with the American already boasting a Grand Slam title aged just 20.
Moreover, she has eight tour-level titles to her name overall, and reached the WTA Tour number two ranking earlier this year.
But Gauff will still be eager to add to her fantastic success at the WTA Finals, which is now underway in Riyadh.

Following her 6-3, 6-2 win over compatriot Pegula, the American will now be eyeing wins over Iga Swiatek and Barbora Krejcikova.
She headed into the tournament in Saudi Arabia sitting third in the world rankings, with Gauff the youngest player in the top-10.
