This follows a mixed start to the 2025 season for the American, which Gauff began with a United Cup title.

However, things didn’t quite go to plan at the first Grand Slam of the season, as Gauff lost in the Australian Open quarter-finals to Paula Badosa.

Now looking ahead to the future, Gauff has already spoken about her plans for the US Open.

There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the US Open this year, despite the tournament being six months away.

The US Open will be changing mixed doubles in 2025, with some of the alterations including moving it to the same week as singles qualifying, reducing the number of teams and giving singles players preference in the entry list.

This has prompted a big reaction, with last year’s champions criticizing the US Open in a lengthy statement.

Despite the widespread objection to this decision, some unlikely players including Taylor Fritz and most recently Aryna Sabalenka have shown interest in mixed doubles.

With this big move happening at her home Grand Slam tournament, Gauff has also been asked about what she thinks of this change and whether she will play mixed doubles in 2025.

“Yeah, the thing with that, it’s like an interesting situation because obviously I’m not a mixed doubles player,” Gauff told media in Dubai. “Some rely on that income. Yeah, it’s an event that’s been there forever.

“On the other hand I know they’re trying to get more singles players involved, maybe grow the sport, grow that aspect of the sport.

“For me personally, I most likely won’t be participating just because it’s not a great time for me. I just think it will take away for the preparation from US Open.

“As someone who loves doubles, as you guys know I play a lot, it’s an interesting thing. I do think that it will maybe help grow that aspect of the sport, but also it takes away some opportunities for other players.

“It’s one of those things that I feel like I have to wait and see how it pans out over time, pans out after it happens and see how it can affect the sport in the whole.

“But yeah, I probably won’t be participating just because the timing isn’t a good time for me. I did like playing the tiebreak set last year that Ben [Shelton] and I did. That was a great alternative to do both.”

Has Coco Gauff played US Open mixed doubles before?

Gauff played alongside Taylor Fritz at the United Cup earlier this year, but has only played mixed doubles at Grand Slams on four previous occasions.

This includes making her Grand Slam debut at just 14-years-old alongside Chris Eubanks.

Gauff achieved her best Grand Slam mixed doubles result at Wimbledon in 2022 with compatriot Jack Sock where they reached the semi-finals.

They partnered together once more in 2023, but lost in the first round of the same year that Gauff won the US Open singles title.

Gauff is not looking likely to make her Grand Slam mixed doubles return this year, with the singles main draw at the US Open beginning on Sunday August 24.
