Coco Gauff and Novak Djokovic lead the way in Sports Pro’s 50 Most Marketable Athletes list for tennis players. But there has also been a huge decline for Emma Raducanu in particular.
Gauff and Djokovic featured in 13th and 18th in the list topped by Simone Biles with each athlete given a rating out of 100. The gymnast topped the charts with 96.16. Vinicius Jr, LeBron James, Caitlin Clark and Lionel Messi rounded out the top five. So a mix of both football and basketball’s leading lights.
It is determined by three components including Brand Strength and Total Addressable Market. These carry 35 points each. While Economics count for 30 to generate a score out of 100. No tennis player made the top 10. But Gauff secured 13th with 82.50. While Djokovic was also in the top 20 with 80.04. They secured top spot last year too albeit a tiny bit higher. Carlos Alcaraz placed 29th followed by Rafael Nadal. Both with 74.99 and 73.20. Aryna Sabalenka also appears in 38th with current World No.1, Jannik Sinner down in 47th spot. Naomi Osaka and Iga Swiatek round out the top 50.
But Raducanu’s fall is perhaps systematic of her drop off. She went from being 21st last year to almost not featuring at all. She sits down in 131st with a 23.13 marketability score marking over 100 spots being dropped. A player who has somewhat lost her shine in recent months, the whole Porsche saga which saw her have to return her supercar also shows perhaps that brands aren’t flocking to her as much anymore.
How she bounces back from this onto next year’s edition perhaps is only dictated on how she does on the tennis court as opposed to off it like it was last year when she couldn’t compete anyway due to injury.
