Hinckley, OH-The Cleveland State men’s golf team posted a seventh-place team finish in the Tom Tontimonia Invitational hosted by CSU at Pine Hills Golf Club. The Vikings improved by three shots on their first round total carding a 5-over 285 in the second round. Cleveland State finished at 13-over par for the 36-hole event which was shortened due to weather. Oakland won the team title with a score of 7-under.
Ryan Dinan, playing as an individual, was the top finisher for the Vikings. Dinan finished with a two-round total of 2-over par. Dinan carded a final round 72 which included four birdies. Oakland’s Luke Kelly and Detroit Mercy’s David Swab tied for medalist honors finishing at 5-under par. Kelly edged out Swab with a par on the second playoff hole to win the individual title.
Andrew Kaye finished the tournament at 3-over par in 29th place. Kaye posted a final round even par 70. He started fast with a birdie on his opening hole, the seventh, and added another birdie late in the round to balance out two bogeys and finish at even par.
Dillon Pendergast was close behind finishing at 4-over par for the tournament in a tie for 30th. Pendergast carded two birdies in his final 18 holes, including a tap-in at the 11th hole after sticking his approach shot to close range.
Brody Simms and Mason Frazier each finished at 5-over par in a tie for 35th place overall. Each posted a 4-over 74 in the final round. The two combined for four total birdies on the day.
Dominik Cosic posted an even par 70 to finish at 6-over for the tournament in a tie for 41st place. Cosic improved by six shots over his first round total and totaled two birdies and two bogeys in his final round.
Playing as individuals, Ben Scheeff finished at 4-over in a tie for 30th place and Alex Anderson finished at 6-over and tied for 41st.
Cleveland State returns to the course next week as the Vikings travel to Saint Francis for the Saint Francis Invitational in Loretto, PA starting October 7.
