Rochester, MI-The Cleveland State men’s golf team is in action for the second time this week as the Vikings head to Metro Detroit for the Oakland Golden Grizzlies Intercollegiate. The tournament begins Saturday with the first 36 holes of competition and the final round will take place on Sunday.
Cleveland State is coming off a fourth-place finish in its season opening tournament earlier this week at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational. Brody Simms finished tied for sixth to earn his third career top ten finish and freshman Ryan Dinan finished tied for tenth in his first collegiate start.
The Vikings posted an 8-under par team total which included a 9-under 275 in the second round. The total set a new program best for lowest single-round score. Cleveland State will look to build off the momentum from that round as it enters its second tournament of the opening week.
The tournament field features seven Horizon League opponents, including Detroit Mercy, Green Bay, IU Indianapolis, Northern Kentucky, Purdue Fort Wayne, Wright State and tournament host Oakland. Overall, Cleveland State is one of 14 teams teeing it up this weekend.
Play is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. with a shotgun start on both days. Cleveland State will tee off on holes 4-8 to begin the day. Andrew Kaye returns to the Viking lineup for his first tournament of the season, and is joined by Simms, Dinan, Mason Frazier and Dillon Pendergast as the five who will tee it up for CSU. Live scoring will be available on Scoreboard throughout the event.
