Cleveland, OH-The Cleveland State golf program welcomed two new student-athletes this week as part of the 2024 signing class. Head coach Steve Weir announced the addition of Taylor Dunkle to the women’s program and Trace Gibson to the men’s program. Both will join the roster for the 2025-26 season.
“We are excited to add Taylor and Trace to our family,” said Coach Weir. “Both will fit in great, both in the classroom and on the course.”
Dunkle resides in Springboro, OH where she competed for the women’s golf team at Springboro High School all four years. She was named to the Greater Western Ohio Conference (GWOC) First Team three times and is a two-time district champion. She was named team MVP three years in a row and qualified for the state tournament three times. She led her team to a GWOC championship, two sectional championships and two top-ten finishes at the state tournament.
Dunkle is joined in her commitment by her parents Stephanie and Matt. She has one younger sister, Elise.
Gibson comes to Cleveland State from Sugarcreek, OH where he lettered all four years on the varsity golf team at Garaway High School. Gibson owns the school record for lowest nine-hole score with a 31, as well as career rounds under par with 27. He is a four-time Inner Valley Conference (IVC) First Team honoree and has twice won the IVC Player of the Year Award. He is a four-time Eastern District Division 3 First-Team member and a two-time district Player of the Year. As a senior, he helped lead his team to a district championship and a third-place finish at the state tournament.
Gibson is joined in his commitment by his parents, Brian and Kesha. He has one older brother, Zehnder, who plays collegiate golf at Malone University.
