CLEVELAND, Ohio — Archbishop Hoban senior Chris Pollak had some great shots down the stretch as he captured the OHSAA Division I state title last month. The senior had a pair of 71’s to finish with a 142 during the state tournament at NCR Country Club in Kettering.
The 2024 cleveland.com boys golfer of the year, who will be playing his college golf at Florida Southern, said playing that tough state tournament course gave him more confidence in his game.
“I worked hard this season to improve my game. Those two days I hit excellent shots. My putting had improved day by day,” Pollak said.
Pollack made quite a jump to the state title, after back-to-back 16th-place finishes as a sophomore and junior. He tied for eighth as a freshman. At this year‘s district tournament at Pine Hills Golf Club, Pollack tied for 14th, but qualified for state as part of Hoban’s team, which finished second.
At state, everything came together.
He also helped his team to capture the Division I boys title with a team total of 595, 17 shots better than runner-up Olentangy Liberty.
