LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) – The City of Lawton is launching a new initiative to address an abundance of abandoned shopping carts called ‘No Cart November.’
According to Michael Watrous, the Public Works Director, you can place shopping carts along bulk waste pickups without it counting toward your limit.
Businesses will then be able to come and recollect their missing carts.
Watrous goes on to add why this is an issue he feels the city needs to address.
”It’s an issue we want to address mainly as we do with any kind of bulk waste,” Watrous said. “We want to make the city look more beautiful, the beautification of the city. We want to make sure the citizens have a way to get rid of or dispose of unsightly waste they have in their yard. Even our commercial businesses that may have shopping carts behind their building. We want a way for them to be able to return the cart.”
Lawton is split into four areas for pickup with the event running from November 4 to December 6.
