After contemplating retirement earlier that summer, Lindsay Davenport won the Cincinnati Open upon the WTA’s return to Mason in 2004.
Tennis fans, you’re in luck: The 2025 edition of the Cincinnati Open will feature five more days of matches and 40 more players.
The tournament, which celebrated its 125th anniversary last year, announced Wednesday the 2025 schedule, which features a 14-day tournament, up from the nine-day spectacle that drew more than 205,000 people to Mason and generated millions in gross revenue last August.
Formerly called the Western & Southern Open, the 2025 Cincinnati Open returns to Mason Tuesday, Aug. 5, through Monday, Aug. 18, at the newly-renovated Lindner Family Tennis Center, where it has been held since 1979. The tournament, the country’s longest-running event of its kind played in its city of origin, is also growing its men’s and women’s singles fields from 56 to 96 players.
The added days mean the two-week tournament now features 24 sessions instead of last year’s 16.
“The added days will help players compete at their peak due to additional rest between matches and will give our fans more opportunities to see the world’s top tennis talent in more matches, practices and special experiences across more days on-site,” tournament director Bob Moran said in a press release.
The extended 2025 tournament will also feature more on-site fan activities thanks to the venue’s $260 million campus renovation project, doubling the size of Lindner Family Tennis Center. More practice courts, increased green space, around-the-clock live music and entertainment, and expanded shopping, dining and drink offerings are in store this year.
Following the initial phase of the renovations ahead of last year’s tournament, the project resumed one week after the 2024 event, introducing a six-court indoor facility, pickleball and paddle courts, 10 additional outdoor tennis courts, a 55,000 square foot clubhouse featuring a year-round restaurant and more, The Enquirer previously reported.
