Mason, Ohio − The Cincinnati Open, formerly called the Western & Southern Open, continued to heat up on Thursday as some of the top-ranked ATP and WTA players took the court.
Thursday’s order of play featured 40 total matches spread out between two sessions and eight courts.
A revised order of play is expected to be announced soon.
Thursday’s WTA/ATP tennis results from the Cincinnati Open:
At 8:50 p.m., play was suspended on all courts due to weather conditions. At 10:42 p.m., the Cincinnati Open announced on X, formerly Twitter, that the remainder of the night’s session had been cancelled.
World No. 5 Jasmine Paolini took down Anastasia Potapova in straight sets, 7-6 (2), 6-3, on Tuesday to move on to the second round. She was a quarterfinalist at last year’s tournament. Paolini is set to play No. 24 Mirra Andreeva in the third round.
World No. 28 Jack Draper came back to upset No. 11 Stefanos Tsitsipas 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 in round two. Draper, playing in his first Cincinnati Open, will play the winner of No. 8 Casper Ruud vs. Felix Auger-Aliassime in the round of 16. Ruud and Auger-Aliassime play tonight at 8:15.
Peyton Stearns and her partner Magda Linette are out of the Cincinnati open after losing a doubles match to Linda Noskova and Diana Shnaider 6-3, 7-6 (6) on Tuesday. Stearns lost to Paula Badosa in the first round of singles competition, so she’s officially done in her hometown tournament for this year.
World No. 16 Holger Rune survived a close second set to defeat Nuno Borges 6-3, 7-6 (8) to move on to the round of 16. Rune is set to play the winner of No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz vs. Gael Monfils. Alcaraz and Monfils play at 7 p.m.
Ben Shelton executed an impressive comeback to defeat Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the second round 6 (6)-7, 7-6 (7), 6-3. Etcheverry had Shelton against the ropes multiple times in the second set, at one point a serve away from moving on, but the American hung on to extend the match and eventually won. Shelton will play world No. 50 Fabian Marozsan in the round of 16 after Maroszan upset former Cincinnati Open champ Grigor Dimitrov 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 earlier today.
Seventeen-year-old Mirra Andreeva defeated Karolina Pliskova in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 to move on in the Cincinnati Open. Andreeva is a name fast on the rise this year, as she earned her first top ten win this year and made the semifinal of the French Open. She will play the winner of Anastasia Potapova and No. 5 Jasmine Paolini in the round of 16
Coco Gauff, the world’s No.2 player and the reigning Cincinnati Open champion, fell to world No. 34 Yulia Putintseva 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 in the second round on Thursday.

After coming out on top of a 22-point first-set tiebreaker, World No. 17 Liudmila Samsonova finished off Poland’s Magda Linette in straights. This is the furthest Cincinnati Open run of her career after Round of 64 exits in 2021 and 2023.
In his first appearance since losing the Canadian Open final, World No. 6 Andrey Rublev handled Zhizhen Zhang in one hour, 6-4, 6-3. Rublev dished up 10 aces, played double fault-free and landed 69% of his first serves.
World No. 3 Aryna Sabalenka is looking to breakthrough in Cincinnati after reaching the semifinals three times (2018, 2022, 2023). The first step in a deeper Mason run came Thursday, when Sabalenka easily dispatched Italy’s Elisabetta Cocciaretto 6-3, 6-4.
It was far from pretty in a match with 30 combined double faults, but Leylah Fernandez notched her first career win over a top 5 opponent with a 3-6, 7-6 (3), 6-4 victory over World No. 4 Elena Rybakina.
The 21-year-old Canadian survived 20 aces from Rybakina to advance to the Round of 16 for the first time in five Cincinnati Open appearances.

One day after becoming the lowest-ranked (No. 513) match winner in Cincinnati since 2015, Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta knocked down the door the Round of 16 with a swift, 105-minute 6-3, 6-3 victory over qualifier Max Purcell.
The 33-year-old Spaniard is competing in just his fourth event this season after missing over a year with a right elbow injury. He will face Alexander Zverev in the third round.

World No. 4 Alexander Zverev, who won the Cincinnati Open three years ago, made quick work of Karen Khachanov, 6-3, 6-2, to advance to the Round of 16. Zverev now had a tour-best 50 wins this year.
World No. 31 Flavio Cobolli improved to 27-21 in singles this season after a 7-6 (4), 3-1, ret. victory over fellow Italian Luciano Darderi.
World No. 29 Elina Svitolina is through to the Cincinnati Open Round of 16 for the sixth time after defeating Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, 6-4, 6-1. Maneiro was a Lucky Loser, replacing two-time Cincinnati Open champion Victoria Azarenka, who withdrew from the tournament Wednesday.
