The 25-year-old Cincinnati Country Day graduate couldn’t take advantage of a first-set victory in Sunday’s qualifying tilt against Nuno Borges, who would go onto win the match 5-7, 6-3, 6-4, in the P&G Grandstand at the Lindner Family Tennis Center.

Borges broke Wolf’s serve twice in the third set to take a 5-4 lead. The 27-year-old from Portugal then finished off the local product in the final game after losing the first two points.

Wolf had early success with his serve, totaling 10 aces, but finished with seven double faults while Borges held the advantage in first – and second-serve points won.

Wolf, who was awarded a qualifying wild card spot, is still searching for his first victory in the main draw at his hometown tournament.

Wolf is 0-3 all-time in the Cincinnati Open main draw, suffering first-round exits in 2020, 2022 and 2023. Sunday marked the fourth time Wolf has been eliminated in the qualifying rounds.

Wolf is trying to find the success he had in early 2023, when he reached his highest mark (No. 39) in the ATP Rankings. He’s now ranked No. 162 and came to Mason after Round of 32 losses in the Citi Open and Atlanta Open.

Peyton Stearns will play Tuesday in 1st round of main draw

With Wolf eliminated and Caty McNally (elbow) on the mend, Peyton Stearns (World No. 53) is the last Cincinnati native remaining in Mason.

Coming off a run to the Canadian Open quarterfinals, Stearns will practice in Mason Monday morning before facing Paula Badosa in the Round of 64 on Tuesday.
