AGAWAM, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – In honor of the 459 tree farms across Massachusetts, Governor Maura Healey declared November 29, 2024, as “Green Friday.”
We visited a local tree farm in Agawam in honor of the newly named holiday.
The day after Thanksgiving can be the start of the Christmas season for families, and for the Glen Gary Christmas Tree Farm, a busy day as families stroll in and the hunt begins for the perfect Christmas tree.
“It needs to be a real tree, and we like a Fraser fir, about seven feet high, not to heavy, and very bushy,” Agawam’s David and Sherri Kreps told us.
Generations carrying on those family traditions.
“So, it’s a yearly tradition, been doing this ever since, well long before I was born, my family has been carrying on, we usually come, immediately family, cousins, my brother, uncles,” Agawam resident Harrison Mendrala shared. “It really gets you in the holiday season, it’s really what it’s about, family and being with those that you love.”
Picking out a new tree can also kick start new beginnings and new traditions.
“Our first year here, we are new to Agawam, we saw them on Facebook, they had great options, between cutting down your own, and precut, the girls had a blast, they were happy they had a tractor ride,” Alahna Seymour exclaimed.
With a tree picked, like they say, deck the halls with boughs of holly.
“We will get to go home, start decorating the tree and the house, we have the outside decorated, now we can do the inside, and drink hot coca,” Seymour said.
