The entry lists for the third Wanda Diamond League meeting of the season in Doha have now been published in full, with the likes of Kenya’s Mary Moraa, India’s Neeraj Chopra and the Bahamas’ Steven Gardiner all hoping to shine at the Qatar Sports Club this Friday.
The Seashore Group Doha Meeting will be the third leg of this season’s 15th-anniversary Wanda Diamond League campaign, after a record-breaking start to the season in Xiamen and Suzhou last month.
A host of Olympic and world medallists will again be welcomed to the Qatar Sports Club where organisers aim to provide the perfect stage for top quality performances. In a packed programme, event highlights are expected to include the men’s javelin, men’s long jump, women’s 800m, men’s 400m, men’s 1500m and women’s pole vault.
Reigning Olympic, world and Asian Games javelin champion Neeraj Chopra – India’s record holder with a best of 89.94m – will make a welcome return to action alongside former world champion Anderson Peters (GRN) and Olympic and world medallist Jakub Vadlejch (CZE).
Chopra became the first Indian athlete ever to win the Diamond Trophy in 2022, and started his 2023 campaign with a stunning victory in the Qatari capital last year. This time around, he will be hoping to make a big first step to regaining the series title in 2024.
Olympic long jump champion Miltiadis Tentoglou is also out to reclaim his Diamond League crown this season. The Greek star won the Diamond Trophy in 2022 but lost out to Switzerland’s Simon Ehammer in last year’s final.
The 26-year-old – who retained his world indoor title with victory in Glasgow on 2 March – boasts a personal best of 8.60m from 2021.
Four-time Diamond League champion Timothy Cheruiyot returns to action in the men’s 1500m, while his fellow Kenyan Mary Moraa will take on British rival Jemma Reekie in a scintillating clash in the women’s 800m.
Steven Gardiner will star in the men’s 400m, with the Bahamian looking to emulate the form which saw him win World Championship gold in Doha back in 2019.
In the women’s pole vault, 2022 Diamond League champion Nina Kennedy will take on newly crowned world indoor champion Molly Caudery. Reigning Diamond Trophy holder and Olympic champion Katie Moon has had to withdraw after her recovery from an Achilles injury took longer than expected.
