BATH, Maine (Gray News) – A child is dead after he collapsed during a youth sporting event at a YMCA location in Maine.

The Bath Area Family YMCA said in a statement on social media that the child collapsed on the field while participating in a youth sports program.

YMCA staff performed CPR and called paramedics for the boy, who was then taken to an area hospital.

“We were devastated to learn that, despite the best efforts of our staff and emergency responders, the young child passed away,” the organization stated.

The child’s identity was not released by the Bath Area Family YMCA.

“Our thoughts and prayers remain with this young child, his family and friends, as well as those who came to his aid,” the YMCA added.
