LEAWOOD, Kan. (KCTV) – The “Nigerian Nightmare” showed his softer side over the weekend as he took hundreds of children around the Kansas City metro on a shopping spree.
Leaders of Christian Okoye’s Okoye Foundation say that on Saturday morning, Dec. 7, the retired Kansas City Chiefs running back joined 225 youth from around the metro to shop at the Leawood DICK’S Sporting Goods at Town Center Plaza.
The organization indicated that it provided each child with a $200 gift card as they spent time with Okoye as their personal shopping consultant.
“I think giving back is part of what we do as human beings,” Okoye said. “I believe that when you attain a certain level of success you owe it to yourself to give back – you’re obligated to help. That’s what life is all about.”
Officials from DICK’S said they are proud to host the event as part of their efforts to inspire and enable participation in youth sports. The event was not open to the public.
