The University of Nebraska–Lincoln will open its Herbie’s Market on February 21st, featuring Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology, according to a 1011 Now report. The market, located in the Nebraska Union, will allow customers to enter by scanning a payment method, select their items, and leave without going through a traditional checkout process. The technology automatically tracks purchases and charges the customer’s chosen payment method.
“The addition of Herbie’s Market is another step forward in ensuring that this space continues to serve our entire community,” Lucas Novotny, executive director of housing and dining services at UNL, told the news outlet.
The market aims to provide convenient access to fresh food and essentials for students, faculty, staff and visitors. Students can use their dining dollars, while others can use credit or debit cards. The grand opening celebration will feature giveaways and events, including free snacks and a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The initial hours of operation will be 7 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday, and 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
