The Next Generation: Charlie Woods’ Golfing Journey
Charlie Woods came onto the golf scene in 2021 playing with his father in the PNC Championship when he was just 12 years old.
Charlie Woods, the son of Tiger Woods, is in Michigan this week to participate in the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship at Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Township.
Tiger is of one of the world’s greatest athletic competitors ever, earning 15 majors, second most in golf all-time, and his 82 wins on the PGA Tour are tied for the most.
But what do we know about Charlie?
Here is everything you need to know about Charlie Woods, as he plays in the biggest event of his young career and makes his United States Golf Association championship debut Monday with a tee time at 8:28 a.m. on the North Course.
Charlie Axel Woods is 15 years old, born Feb. 8, 2009 in Florida. His father is Tiger Woods and mother is Elin Nordegren (they are divorced), and his sister is Sam Alexis Woods, 17.
Charlie is a rising sophomore at the The Benjamin School in Palm Beach County. We spoke with his high school coach last week to learn more about Charlie, who helped the varsity golf team to a state title last year as a freshman.
Charlie’s American Junior Golf Association ranking is 1,279. He is also ranked No. 763 on The Universal Golf Rankings for junior boys.
According to Blue Golf, Charlie has played in 19 junior events so far. He placed top five in four events.
Charlie Woods’ longest drive that we know of traveled 335 yards, driving the green on the par-4 seventh hole at the 2023 PNC Championship in December.
Charlie Woods’ best golf shot might be his first eagle in the 2020 PNC Championship in his debut. He hit a big draw with his 5-wood from about 175 yards at the par-5 third hole to within 4 feet of the cup, with Tiger leaning in the background and yelling “awesome shot!” Charlie then sunk the eagle putt, embracing Tiger, who was laughing as he said, “your first eagle!”
