As the Hillsdale College men’s golf team prepares for an important spring of competition, the Chargers also are preparing for the future, having finalized their recruiting class for the upcoming 2025-26 season.
The Chargers are adding three players to the roster: John Cassiday (Grand Rapids, MI/Grand Rapids Christian), Andrew Irvine (Gavinton, Scotland, UK/Dunbar Grammar), and Parker Stalcup (Lake Orion, MI/Clarkston Everest Collegiate).
Cassiday is one of the top prep golfers in the state of Michigan and an important part of a powerhouse Grand Rapids Christian program. He was a key player as a sophomore in the Eagles’ 2023 MHSAA Division 2 state title, tying for sixth as an individual with a two-round score of 148, and helped lead Grand Rapids Christian to runner-up honors as a junior in 2024. A two-time All-State golfer who has earned All-Conference and All-Region Honors every year of high school, Cassiday also has won two individual MHSAA Regional titles, in 2023 and 2024. He’s also been a top player in amateur golf, qualifying for the Michigan Amateur in both 2023 and 2024, and serving as an alternate for the USGA Boys 2023 Junior Amateur Championship. He comes to College with a handicap of 2.8 and a low round of 65.
As a three-sport athlete, Cassiday also has starred for the Eagles’ soccer team, earning two All-State honors and helping Grand Rapids Christian to MHSAA D2 state titles in 2021 and 2023, and scoring a hat-trick in the state championship game in 2023 on the way to a 3-0 victory. He also plays basketball at Grand Rapids Christian, playing on the Eagles’ 2024 MHSAA D2 state runner-up squad. An excellent student, Cassiday is an AP Scholar in the state of Michigan who’s earned Academic All-State in all three of his sports and the Grand Rapids Christian Highest Honors GPA award all three years of high school to date as well.
Irvine is a skilled prospect for the birthplace of golf, Scotland. In a decorated amateur career in his home country, he won the Scottish Junior Team Championships Individual Tournament, as well as back-to-back Junior Golf East Lothian Order of Merit Scratch Division titles in 2023 and 2024. A junior club champion and junior captain for his home course, North Berwick West Links, he made the cut in the 2024 Scottish Boys Amateur Championship, and has played with the Junior Scottish National Team on two occasions in international events against the Junior Spanish National Team and the South Carolina Juniors.
An excellent golfer, Irvine comes to Hillsdale with a handicap of 0.3 and a 18-hole low of 67. Also a three sport athlete, Irvine was a strong competitor at a regional level in Scotland in both soccer and badminton in addition to his golf career. A strong student, Irvine won his high school’s prize for overall academic excellence three years running, including special recognition in music and physics, and was recognized with the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award in 2023. He was able to graduate from high school early and enroll in Hillsdale College this spring, where he’ll train with the team throughout 2025.
Stalcup is another talented Michigan prospect who comes to Hillsdale after helping Clarkston Everest Collegiate approach dynasty status in MHSAA Division 4 competition. As a freshman in 2022, Stalcup helped Everest Collegiate earn runner-up honors in the state as a team, and in 2023 and 2024 he led the Mountaineers to back to back D4 state titles, placing second in the state individually in 2023 with a two-round score of 148, and fourth in 2024 with a 157. He’s also performed well in big amateur tournaments, making two appearances in the Michigan Amateur and finishing in the top four in the Michigan Junior Amateur in 2024.
A gifted player with a handicap of 0.5 and a low round of 66, Stalcup also is a three-sport athlete who plays soccer and hockey as well at the high school level, and also a strong student who serves as the Everest Collegiate Student Body President, is a member of the National Honor Society and is on the A Honor Roll at Everest Collegiate.
