Chandigarh A registered a thumping 180-run victory over Himachal Pradesh during the fourth U-16 Balramji Das Tandon Multi-Day Tournament at the Tau Devi Stadium, Sector 3 here. In reply to Chandigarh’s 167, the visitors collapsed at 36. In their second innings, the hosts resumed from their overnight score of 56/1 and scored 147. Skipper Akul Bhanot contributed 41. Chasing 279, Himachal Pradesh collapsed at 98, wherein Varun Thakur (30) was the top scorer. Ranveer Ahuja (5/31) claimed maximum wickets for the bowling side. He was awarded the man of the match award.
In another match, J&K defeated Mizoram by an innings and 158 runs. J&K scored 344/6 and restricted Mizoram at 85. In their second innings, Mizoram scored 101. Mir Waqas took seven wickets in the match. The third match of the day, played between Punjab and Delhi, ended in a draw. Delhi scored 129 in reply to Punjab’s 164. Punjab scored 191/3. Later, Delhi posted 115/1 to draw the match.
Earlier, Haryana Sports Minister Gaurav Gautam and former Speaker of Haryana Legislative Assembly Gian Chand Gupta unveiled the tournament trophy in the presence of the organiser, UTCA president Sanjay Tandon. Apart from Chandigarh’s two teams A and B, teams from J&K, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Delhi, Tripura and Mizoram are participating in the tournament.
