ICC Champions Trophy 2025 India Squad Announcement LIVE: Amid the delay in announcing the squad for CT 2025, the BCCI on Saturday announced the Team India squad for upcoming five-match T20I series against England, beginning from 22 January in Kolkata. Mohammad Shami has been called again to lead the pace attack for India.Â
The Indian squad will be again led by Suryakumar Yadav, while all-rounder Axar Patel has been made the vice-captain for the IDFC First Bank five-match T20I series.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India who were all set to unveil the squad for Team India, are likely to delay the squad announcement today i.e. January 12, as per reports. Â According to the ICC, the apex board has set 12 January as the deadline for all teams participating in the tournament to unveil their preliminary squads.
Who are likely to make a cut in the Champions Trophy India squad?
Out-of-form veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will continue to form the batting core of India’s ODI squad, however, three senior players whose future in the 50-over format could be debated when the selectors gather this weekend to pick the squad for the Champions Trophy.
India will play all their Champions Trophy games in Dubai, starting with the clash against Bangladesh on February 20. This came after the team refused to travel to original hosts Pakistan citing security concerns.
Following a not-so-satisfactory performance in the Border Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, Team India look futuristic for the upcoming white-ball tournaments including England’s tour to India, followed by ICC Champions Trophy 2025.Â

According to a News18 report, the BCCI is likely to announce the T20I squad against England soon. But the squads for ODIs against England and Champions Trophy will be announced later. Notably, the last date to submit teams for Champions Trophy is January 12, unless the ICC allows a special extension.Â

Taking to X, Former Indian cricketer Mohammed Kaif said, “BCCI shd think twice before appointing Bumrah as full time captain. He needs to solely focus on taking wkts and staying fit. Added leadership responsibility, getting carried away in heat of moment can result in injuries and shorten an outstanding career. Don’t kill the golden goose.”
The Indian pacer has been sidelined since the 2023 ODI World Cup final due to injury. He made his comeback in November and has since been playing domestic cricket for Bengal. While there were rumors about him being flown to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the BCCI deemed him unfit for the Tests. It is still uncertain whether Shami will be included in the squad for the England series before the Champions Trophy.
BCCI selection committee and head coach Gautam Gambhir are actively considering looking beyond veteran spinner Ravindra Jadeja to reshape the team ahead of the ahead of 2027 World Cup, The Times of India reported.
The report mentioned that Jadeja’s future could be in jeopardy as BCCI is set to assess his role in the upcoming international seasons.
Looking at Champions Trophy 2025, the selectors may favour Jadeja in the Playing XI as pitches in Dubai have historically favoured slow bowlers. Following the tournament, Jadeja’s future in the ODI format will be a critical decision for the BCCI.
