The defending champion Boston Celtics have at least one player on their team who is already a lock for the Hall of Fame, at least according to two respected basketball minds.

Those two people happen to be ESPN’s Brian Windhorst and notable NBA trainer Drew Hanlen, both of whom recently appeared on ESPN to discuss Jayson Tatum alongside ESPN NBA Insider Ramona Shelburne.

“(Tatum) is ultimately about winning championships,” Hanlen said. “He knows guys like Kobe and Shaq, they only won 1 MVP. That doesn’t mean that they weren’t one of the best players of all time. It just meant they only won 1 MVP. But they won multiple championships, and that’s what Jayson’s trying to do.”

Hanlen’s next statement, however, drew critical laughter from Shelburne.

“At the end of the day, he’s 26 years old (and) has a Hall of Fame resume already at 26,” Hanlen continued, at which point Shelburne chuckled.

Windhorst butted in to defend Hanlen’s assertion, saying, “That’s true, actually,” in reference to the notion that Tatum has already accrued a Hall of Fame resume.

Hanlen continued:

“He’s gonna keep stacking up All-NBA (teams) year after year after year. There’s going to be a time when fans look up and go, ‘Oh wait … look at his resume … he’s one of those guys,’ and I really do think that Jayson will go down as one of the all-time greatest basketball players ever when it’s all said and done, and so until then we’re just going to let them keep judging the results and keep hating on all the success.”

Celtics fans flocked to X to criticize Shelburne for laughing at the idea that Tatum’s resume is already Hall of Fame worthy.

Tatum is a six-time NBA All-Star, NBA champion (2024), and three-time All-NBA First Teamer with 68 playoff wins so far in his career to go along with his two NBA Finals appearances.
