Celtics star Derrick White got smacked in the head and his hat went flying during a fight behind one of the end zones during the Colorado vs. Colorado State college football game on Saturday, video obtained by TMZ Sports shows.
White, a crucial member of the Celtics team that won an NBA championship in June and who also won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2024 Olympics last month, was in Fort Collins supporting his alma mater Colorado when, according to TMZ Sports, he and some Colorado State fans began jawing at each other.
A man in a Colorado State hat then took a swing at White in the third quarter.
People stepped in to hold White and the fan back as a lot of pushing and shoving ensued.
The video did not show any more punches being thrown, and a police report was not filed, TMZ Sports reported.
White’s Buffaloes defeated the Rams 28-9 to improve to 2-1.
The Parker, Colo., native played one year for the Buffaloes in 2016-17 after spending three years at Division II Colorado-Colorado Springs (UCCS).
A defensive stalwart, the 30-year-old was drafted by the Spurs in the first round (No. 29 overall) in the 2017 NBA Draft.
He played parts of five seasons for San Antonio before he was traded to Boston in February 2022.
White has earned NBA All-Defensive second-team honors each of his last two seasons with the Celtics and averaged 15.2 points, 5.2 assists and 4.2 rebounds last season.
In 19 playoff games en route to the championship, White averaged 16.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists while shooting 40.4 percent from 3-point range.
His efforts earned him a four-year, $125.9 million contract extension with the Celtics over the summer.
