A quarter of the NBA season has passed, and the Boston Celtics are still near the top of the league. According to the power rankings done by the NBA, the Celtics are number two in the league, sitting behind the Cleveland Cavaliers. The NBA also had some interesting takeaways for the Celtics’ playstyle.
The first takeaway is the Celtics shoot a lot of threes. Like, A LOT of threes. Whether they’re contested or not, if it’s early in the shot clock or not, Celtics players’ usual first idea is to chuck a three. They’ve played eight games where 60% of their shot selection was from beyond the arc.
The second takeaway was a build off the first, basically saying the C’s live and die by the three. Because they shoot so many threes, they tend to make a lot, pushing their score much higher than their opponents.
Although, when the team has an off night from deep, they’re usually in trouble. However, even though they’ve had 12 games where they shot less than league average from three, (36%), they’re 8-4 in those games.
The final takeaway is the Celtics can still win when most of their superstars are out. In the past four games, five of their top eight guys missed at least one game, yet they went 3-1. Their complete healthy starting lineup has only played in three games, but that’s only their second most used lineup.
With all this in mind, it’s safe to say the Celtics are still one of the top dogs of the NBA. When they return from their break, they will play the Detroit Pistons December 12th at 7:30pm EST.
