The Celtics are in the middle of their offseason now, enjoying their summer after winning the 2024 title. But there’s also plenty of time to reflect on some of the best moments of the championship run.

Celtics big man Xavier Tillman Sr., talking on Spaces on NBA’s X account, broke down some of the memories that came from the C’s winning it all. Tillman got some crucial minutes throughout the playoffs, including in the Finals after Kristaps Porzingis was unable to play due to a rare leg injury.

Tillman made a splash in Game 3 against the Mavs, playing 11 minutes and showing off his defense. In the process, too, the big man made a crucial 3-pointer in the third quarter as the Celtics were on a huge run. Tillman explained his favorite part of the moment.

“I made it and I looked right at the bench because I think Dereck Lively was right behind me when I shot it and he was like, ‘(expletive) no,’” Tillman said. “So when I hit it, I looked right at him and smiled and was like, ‘Yep.’

“That was a pretty cool moment because the art and the love and the passion of basketball is all about being competitive. So for me to be able to back up how I was playing and feeling and talking trash, that was an amazing feeling.”

Tillman re-signed with the Celtics this summer after coming to Boston during the trade deadline last season. The C’s wanted to shore up their front court depth, which is why they brought Tillman in from Memphis. Tillman should slide right in as big man insurance again next season along with Neemias Queta and Luke Kornet.

Porzingis will miss the opening weeks of the season after leg surgery, which is the injury he suffered in the Finals. So Tillman and the other big men will be especially important early on as the Celtics eye back-to-back titles. For now, the C’s will enjoy the summer ahead of training camp.

“To see the video of the bench — (Jayson Tatum), Svi (Mykhailiuk), Jaden (Springer), everybody going crazy after I hit the 3, I was like, ‘Man, that’s sweet.’” Tillman said. “To see the team really like hype over me making that shot. So that was pretty cool.”
