Owens Cross Roads, Ala. – Western Carolina women’s golf climbed one spot into fourth-place overall at “The Robbie” on Saturday and remains seven strokes off the event podium as the field hits the final round on Sunday at the par-72, 6,226 RTJ Golf Trail at Hampton Cove.
WCU’s climb was led by freshman Annalee Caveney climbed nine spots into a two-way tie for 17th overall with a score of 152, two strokes ahead of teammates Elizabeth Lohbauer and Madison Lehr in a tie for 19th at 154. Lehr, like Caveney, moved nine positions over Saturday’s second 18 holes. The third freshman – Ella Kozak – moved up three spots into 23rd overall with Sadler Miller rounding out the lineup in a tie for 25th at 157.
Caveney countered a pair of bogeys with three birdies on the front nine Saturday, making the turn at 1-under par. A day after shooting even-par with nine holes in regulation on the back, she closed the second round with three-consecutive bogeys to finish at 2-oer par, 74. Lohbauer and Lehr both collected their second birdies of the tournament in round two, while Ella Kozak matched her trio of birdies on Friday with three more Saturday. Miller added two more birdies to her four from Friday.
Playing unattached as an individual, senior Kaitly Wingnean is 35th overall with a two-round score of 165 (82-83).
With four of its scoring five solidly inside the individual Top 10, nationally-ranked Louisville (579) is comfortably perched atop the leaderboard with a 25-stroke lead over second-place – and tournament host – Lipscomb (604) which climbed one spot on Saturday. Murray State (605) slipped into third, seven strokes up on fourth-place WCU (612) with Morehead State (616) and Bellarmine (638) rounding out the field.
Louisville’s Thienna Huynh posted a 3-under par 69 round on Saturday to advance seven positions to the top of the leaderboard. She carries a one-stroke lead over a two-way tie for second including teammate Carmen Griffiths and Vanderbilt individual, Angelina Tolentino.
