MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – As the Clarke County High School Football Coach faces multiple allegations of having an inappropriate relationship with a student, future information on this case could be kept behind closed doors.
55-year-old Rob Carter, the head football coach for The Bulldogs, was arrested in Okaloosa County on Feb. 21 and extradited Feb. 23.
According to court documents, Carter is accused of sending explicit photos to an underage high school student and soliciting sexual activity from that minor.
The same documents detail disturbing claims that Carter persuaded, encouraged and harassed a student to have sex with him.
A judge has since approved a gag order, meaning attorneys, law enforcement and others involved cannot discuss the case publicly.
But now, Sheriff Dwayne Smith is challenging parts of that order.
According to a document filed today, Sheriff Smith asked for the parents of the victim to be notified when and if Carter makes bond. This has also been requested by the family.
Smith also asked for the ability to answer public record requests about Carter’s status and charges.
The coach’s bond is set at $122,000.
If he gets out, he can’t have any contact with the alleged victim or their family, has to wear an ankle monitor, he can’t step foot on any school campus and cannot leave Alabama.
We’ve reached out to Carter’s attorney but haven’t heard back.
