The Carolina Panthers play their first preseason game of the year tonight, but several notable players will be inactive. With the Panthers taking a cautious approach to the preseason, they are sitting the majority of their starters for the game against the New England Patriots.
After tonight’s game, the Panthers have two more preseason games before the regular season begins. That means the starters who are not playing against the Patriots will likely see action in one of the two remaining games. Here’s a look at the Panthers’ first list of inactives for the year.
Panthers fans were hoping to see Legette in action since he’s the team’s first-round pick. But the former South Carolina star left practice earlier on Sunday due to a lower leg injury. The good news is there’s no structural damage to Legette’s leg, so he should be ready to go when the regular season begins.
Earlier this week, Canales announced that Young would not see any action in the preseason opener. “We’ll take that week-to-week and get a sense for, do we need to get him out there in this system and get a couple of series and do that? That’s something that I’ve done in the past. We’ve done both. So, for this game, he will not play,” Canales said, per Pro Football Talk.
Canales added: “The growth and all that matters. I’ve seen the plus side of going out there and just being able to have the cadences, the mixes, the plays coming in, the play clock, the situations and all that — those are really important as well. But I also know, we’re depending on those guys, too.”
