Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard, Sue Bird and Maya Moore are among the first-time nominees for the 2025 Basketball Hall of Fame.

The Basketball Hall of Fame unveiled the full list of eligible candidates for the 2025 class on Thursday.

Included in the announcement was an update to the Hall of Fame’s eligibility requirements, which reduced the waiting period for player candidates from three full seasons out of the game to two seasons.

Anthony is the headliner from the group after a 19-year NBA career that included 10 All-Star appearances, six All-NBA selections and a spot on the NBA’s 75th anniversary team. He also won four Olympic medals, including three straight golds in 2008, 2012 and 2016.

Howard was one of the most dominant centers of his era. He was named NBA Defensive Player of the Year in three consecutive seasons from 2008-09 to 2010-11, finished in the top 10 in MVP voting in five straight years and was an eight-time All-Star selection.

In addition to their individual nominations, Anthony and Howard could also be elected as members of the 2008 U.S. men’s national team. The Redeem Team is on the ballot for the second straight year.

Bird holds WNBA records for games played (580), assists (3,234) and All-Star selections (13) during her storied 21-year career from 2002 to ’22. Her four WNBA titles are tied with five other players, including Moore, for the most all-time.

Moore had arguably the greatest career in WNBA history on per-season basis. She earned MVP votes in each of her eight seasons, winning the award in 2014, made the All-Star team six times and finished top three in Defensive Player of the Year voting three times. She also won two Olympic gold medals and two national titles at Connecticut.

Along with her on-court accomplishments, Moore has become an icon away from the sports world as an activist for social justice that led her to take a hiatus from basketball in 2019 before officially retiring in January 2023.

The Hall of Fame Class of 2025 will be unveiled on April 5 in San Antonio at the site of the NCAA men’s Final Four.
