ELK RIVER, Minn. – Wyatt Carlson (Jr., Wayzata) is in first through round one of the Twin Cities Classic, posting a two-under par 70 through round one, tied with Carleton’s Justin Rodriguez. The Gustie “A” team is in sixth of 17, while the “B” team is in eighth, and the “C” team in 17th. Nebraska Wesleyan is leading the field with a two-over par 290 in round one.
For the Gustie first team, Pelayo Perez Crespo (Jr., Sotogrande, Spain) is in 11th, carding a 73 through round one, with a trio of birdies. Blake Forrest (So., Maple Grove) is next for the team, with four round one birdies for 17th overall (74). Chris Gutuza (Jr., Johannesburg, South Africa), following his first collegiate tournament win the weekend before, shot a 76 with three birdies in round one. Teddy Kaste (Sr., Apple Valley) is in 58th with a 79, while Jack Reinardy (Sr., Andover) rounded out the first team in 73rd with an 81 on day one.
Carlson’s round one 70 certainly helped the Gustie “B” team’s standing, as the junior carded five birdies, including a two-shot birdie on hole four. Aradheea Gawade (Fy., Mumbai, India) is in 29th, sharing the spot with Gutuza with four birdies for a 76. Tommy Hiniker (5th, Edina) is one shot behind Gawade and Gutuza, tied for 38th overall. Jimmy Abdo (Fy., Edina) carded an 80 in round one, while Khrystjan Petersen (5th, Faribault) posted an 81.
Cole Paulson (Jr., Sauk Rapids) posted a three-shot eagle to highlight the Gustie “C” team performance, and is tied with Caleb McBee (Sr., Glendale, Ariz.) with an 81. Cameron Longie (Sr., Hutchinson) is one shot better than Paulson and McBee with an 80 for 64th overall. Tomas Rohrborn (Sr., Santiago, Chile) posted an 83 Saturday at Elk River.
“The guys were hanging in there very well through the first 14 holes,” said Assistant Coach Randall Stuckey ’83, “then we didn’t finish going 13 over par the last four holes. We need to come out tomorrow playing one shot and one hole at a time and not getting too far ahead of ourselves. It’s a very strong tournament field and we’re still in a good spot to make a move tomorrow and Monday.”
The Gusties tee off at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow at the Links at the Links at Northfork in Ramsey.
