CAMPTI, La. (KALB) – International Paper is announcing the permanent closure of its mill in Campti, Louisiana, which will cause hundreds to be out of a job.
According to the Natchitoches Parish Journal, International Paper will close the Red River Mill in Campti and four other mills globally by April 2025.
This will affect 495 hourly and 179 salaried employees in total, 300 of which are from the Campti facility.
That mill had just celebrated 50 years of operations in March of 2024, according to the journal’s reporting.
The company plans to reduce the impact through attrition, retirements, and filling positions at other sites. Severance may be available for some affected employees.
This move is part of the company’s plan to focus on sustainable packaging and the closures will cut the company’s containerboard capacity by 800,000 tons annually.
