It’s a bit hard to remember now, but back when Cam Reddish committed to Duke, there were many who thought he might be the prize of Duke’s class. Didn’t work out that way.
When he was drafted in 2019, along with classmates Zion Williamson and RJ Barrett, some thought that he might be the best player from Duke that year. That didn’t work out either.
Part of it is injuries: Reddish has had his share. And that’s part of why he hasn’t played in that many games. He managed 58 in his first season but with the Knicks, he managed just 35 games in two years, with Portland 20 and last year with Los Angeles, 48.
The other part is harder to understand.
Reddish has talent; he always has. For whatever reason, it hasn’t translated into NBA success.
Reddish exercised his player option over the summer, so he’ll be with L.A. this season and playing for new coach and Brotherhood member JJ Redick. In the NBA, that probably won’t count for much, but they have a background in common.
Bottom line though is that Reddish is running out of chances to be more than a deep reserve. A big year would help him immensely.
