Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson has been seen rehabbing at the Aspire Academy in Doha, Qatar, in the company of highly regarded FC Copenhagen starlet Roony Bardghji, as reported by Craig Hope of the Daily Mail on Nov. 14.
The 18-year-old Swedish forward, who has been linked with a transfer to Newcastle in recent windows, shared a video of the two playing head tennis as they both work their way back from injuries.
Wilson should be nearing a return to action for Newcastle, targeting the home clash with West Ham next week after failing to make his season debut to date following a never-ending recovery process due to back and hamstring issues.
Bardghji, meanwhile, is recovering from a serious knee injury he sustained in May. The youngster, who has attracted attention from top clubs across Europe, appeared at ease alongside Wilson, prompting speculation about Newcastle’s potential renewed interest in the teenager in Hope’s eyes.
The timing of the meeting also raised eyebrows, with Hope reporting that Wilson’s interaction with Bardghji may be more than coincidental.
Newcastle’s scouting strategy under sporting director Paul Mitchell has recently intensified, focusing on unearthing young talent that can either develop into first-team assets or be sold for significant profit, so there might be something hidden here.
The sight of Wilson mingling with Bardghji, a player previously on Newcastle’s radar, definitely aligns with the club’s new objectives and goals of blending experienced and established players with high-upside youngsters.
