Who it’s for: Fast-swinging golfers who want the high launch and firm feel of the Chrome Tour X, but with less spin.
What you should know: The third ball to join the Chrome Tour family was designed to create less spin and a high launch angle to maximize distance for fast-swinging golfers.
The deep dive: Last year was massive for Callaway’s golf ball division. The brand introduced two new balls – Chrome Tour and Chrome Tour X – and brand ambassador Xander Schauffele used the Chrome Tour X to win the PGA Championship and the British Open.
Now a third Chrome Tour ball is being added to the stable, and it comes with a name that will immediately tell golfers who it’s for and what it’s about: Chrome Tour Triple Diamond.
On the club side, Triple Diamond drivers and fairway woods have been available for a few years, and they are always for fast-swinging, accomplished golfers who want to reduce spin. The ball is no different.
The Chrome Tour Triple Diamond is a four-piece ball that has a large rubber core, two mantle layers and a soft urethane cover. While the standard Chrome Tour has a compression of 88 and the Chrome Tour X checks in at 98, Chrome Tour Triple Diamond has a compression around 95.
Callaway said the goal with Chrome Tour Triple Diamond was to reduce spin while encouraging a higher flight off the tee and from the fairway. For fast-swinging players, that should result in more carry distance. Plus, with a lower overall spin, Chrome Tour Triple Diamond should produce less sidespin, so drives and shots with long irons could fly straighter too.
While the Chrome Tour Triple Diamond may fly on a similar trajectory or slightly higher than Chrome Tour X, it will not only spin less off the tee but also spin less with irons and wedges.
