UNCW emerges as lone road winner in seven-game #CAAHoops slate on Thursday

UNCW (23-7, 13-4 CAA) clinched the No. 2 seed in the 2025 Jersey Mike’s CAA Men’s Basketball Championship with its 79-60 win over Campbell (15-15, 10-7 CAA) on Thursday. Big man Harlan Obioha led the Seahawks with an 18-point effort, going 8-for-10 from the floor with eight boards. Donovan Newby and Khamari McGriff rounded out those in double figures with 17 and 14 points, respectively.
The Seahawks jumped out to a 17-4 lead at the first media timeout behind a trio of 3-pointers. A balanced scoring front continued for UNCW throughout the first half as eight different scorers propelled the visiting team to a 30-12 lead with 6:28 remaining in the stanza. Campbell utilized a 9-0 run to end the frame, seeing Elijah Walsh finish a 2-on-1 rush at the rim before the buzzer and pulling the Camels’ deficit to 38-28 at the intermission. Harlan Obioha scored the first five UNCW points of the second half before a Donovan Newby triple pushed the team’s lead to 12 at 16:39. After Campbell worked the Seahawks’ advantage down to eight, UNCW notched a 13-3 run to take a 61-43 edge with 11:15 to play. The Seahawks shot 66.7 percent from the floor in the second half, seeing 14 of its 16 makes coming inside the arc to hold on for the 19-point win. Colby Duggan registered a team-best 19 points for the Camels.
Drexel 53, Hampton 52

Drexel (16-14, 8-9 CAA) battled back from a 10-point deficit to edge Hampton, 53-52, snapping the Pirates’ five-game winning streak. Jason Drake scored a team-best 15 points, while Cole Hargrove fell a rebound shy of a double-double with 12 points on 5-of-5 shooting and nine boards.
The Dragons knocked down six of its first seven shots to take a 14-8 lead with 14:09 to play in the opening stanza. Drexel pushed its lead to as many as 10, 28-18, following a 12-6 stretch capped off by a pair of makes at the charity stripe by Yame Butler at 5:24. The Pirates (16-14, 8-9) clawed its way back with a 9-2 run to end the half, seeing Etienne Strothers make it a one-possession game, 30-27, after hitting a trey at the buzzer from beyond mid-court. Neither team saw a lead larger than two possessions in the second half. Hampton took a six-point lead out of the second-half gate with a 13-4 run, capped off by a three-point from Xzavier Long. The Dragons battled to get over the hump, being matched by the Pirates throughout the final 10:41 until Drake and Butler each knocked down a pair of late free throws to secure the 53-52 victory. Noah Farrakhan posted a game-best 18 points for Hampton.
Towson 88, William & Mary 73

Towson (20-10, 15-2 CAA) captured the CAA Regular Season Championship outright with a 56-point showing in the second half to earn an 88-73 comeback victory over William & Mary (17-13, 11-6 CAA). Dylan Williamson scored 17 of his game-best 20 points in the second half to go with five 3-pointers. Tyler Tejada also recorded 20 points and knocked down four treys, while Tomiwa Sulaiman registered 13 of his 15 points in the final frame. Christian May chipped in 13 points to round out those in double figures.
Both teams exchanged blows from distance until a Gabe Dorsey triple sparked eight unanswered points for the Tribe to take a 16-8 advantage. After Malachi Ndur and Isaiah Mbeng bumped W&M’s lead to double digits, Tyler Tejada sank a pair of 3-pointers on a 13-4 run to bring Towson to within one, 28-27, with 5:43 to play in the first half. William & Mary carried a 16-5 run into halftime, seeing Keller Boothby hit the team’s fifth triple on the scoring stretch to take a 15-point lead just 12 seconds into the second half. It took Towson 7:57 to erase its deficit, seeing Sulaiman score eight straight points before consecutive finishes at the rim by Williamson tied the game at 55 with 11:03 remaining. The latter layup sparked 21 unanswered points, part of a 26-3 run to take a 79-58 lead with 4:13 to play. Towson hit nine triples in the second half to secure the 15-point win.
Northeastern 69, N.C. A&T 55

Rashad King racked up 25 points with five of his eight field goals coming from distance as Northeastern (16-14, 8-9 CAA) earned a 69-55 win over N.C. A&T (7-23, 3-14 CAA). JB Frankel and William Kermoury both knocked down a trio of 3-pointers for nine points apiece in the win.
The Huskies jumped out to an early seven-point lead before A&T’s Camian Shell and Bryson Ogletree cut it down to one with back-to-back treys. However, Kermoury retaliated twice and helped Northeastern maintain a four-point lead, 20-16, with his own pair of 3-pointers. The two teams traded buckets until a four-point play off the hands of King lifted the Huskies to a 32-26 lead with 2:05 remaining. Nikolaos Chitkoudis brought the Aggies back to within four, 34-30, at the intermission, scoring 10 of his 14 first-half points with under 8:10 to play. The Aggies’ big man finished with 19 points and 15 boards. Northeastern staved off N.C. A&T as King and Kermoury opened up an 8-0 stretch with consecutive makes from behind the arc to go up 47-37 with 12:24 to play in regulation. The Huskies continued to hold off the Aggies down the stretch, sinking four additional treys and shooting 50.0 percent from the floor over the final 9:40 of the contest. A&T’s Ogletree posted 13 points on Thursday.
Charleston 94, Delaware 84

Charleston Head Coach Chris Mack earned his 300th career win in Thursday’s 94-84 win over Delaware (12-18, 5-12 CAA). Ante Brzovic produced a 27-point effort on 11-of-13 shooting from the floor to go with eight boards and three assists as the Cougars (22-8, 12-5 CAA) secured a top-four finish in the conference tournament. CJ Fulton produced a 20-point, 10-assist effort, while Lazar Djokovic fell a rebound shy of his own double-double with 15 points and nine boards. Derrin Boyd chipped in 11 points with three triples.
Charleston erased an early five-point deficit with a 15-0 run, capped off by treys from Derrin Boyd and Deywilk Tavarez, taking a 28-15 lead with 8:23 to play in the opening half. After the Cougars bumped its advantage to as many as 14, John Camden and Cavan Reilly drained three straight treys for the Blue Hens to make it 37-30. Charleston took a 43-34 lead into the break. The Cougars saw its lead jump to double digits until Camden and Isaiah Pasha combined to score 14 of the team’s first 22 points in the second half to pull Delaware to within two, 58-56, just past the midway point. Over the next six minutes, Charleston held strong without allowing the Blue Hens to take a lead and nearly went shot-for-shot with its visitors. The Cougars closed out the contest on a 14-8 run to capture the double-digit win. Camden rattled off 31 points and 10 boards in the setback, while Pasha and Reilly finished with 17 and 16 points apiece.
Monmouth 79, Elon 76

Abdi Bashir Jr. went off for 29 points and saw eight of his nine makes come from behind the arc as Monmouth (12-18, 10-7 CAA) held on for a 79-76 victory over Elon (17-13, 8-9 CAA). Bashir has 118 3-pointers this season, leading the nation and sitting seven behind the conference record holder, Hofstra’s Tyler Thomas (125). Cornelius Robinson Jr. produced a career-high 21 points on 10-of-14 shooting to go with eight boards in the Hawks’ 600th win as a Division I program.
Sherry and Simpkins combined for 22 points to open the game and guided Elon to a 29-16 advantage at 7:35 of the opening stanza. Abdi Bashir Jr. slashed the Hawks deficit to single digits, 33-24, with his fourth 3-pointer of the half at 5:32. Cornelius Robinson Jr. registered nine of the final 12 points for Monmouth to trail by only six, 42-36, at halftime. Bashir continued to hit from distance and brought the Hawks to within one, but Simpkins retaliated with a trey of his own to take a 50-46 lead with 14:22 to play. A quick 10-2 run highlighted by another pair of triples from Bashir gave Monmouth a four-point edge with under 12 minutes to play. After six lead changes and four ties, the Hawks’ Jaret Valencia drained a 3-pointer with 4:21 that put the home team ahead for good. Monmouth grew its lead to as many as five before securing the three-point win. Simpkins and Sherry produced 20-point outings with 22 and 20 points apiece. Brayden Crump also factored in double figures with 13 points of his own.
Stony Brook 59, Hofstra 56

An 8-0 run to end the game lifted Stony Brook (7-27, 3-14 CAA) to a 59-56 home win over Hofstra (13-17, 5-12 CAA). CJ Luster notched five treys en route to a 19-point performance. Collin O’Connor chipped in 17 points with three of his six makes from the floor coming from behind the arc. Andre Snoddy also registered 13 boards to go and scored four of his eight points in the final 13 seconds of the game.
O’Connor and Luster combined for 16 points to open the contest and pushed Stony Brook out to a 21-11 lead with 7:42 remaining. After a Quin Gorman triple to put the Seawolves up by 11, German Plotnikov hit a 3-pointer of his own in response and finished at the rim before the halftime horn to slash the Pride’s deficit to five, 31-26, at the break. Hofstra surged to open the second half with a 16-7 run, seeing Cruz Davis score six points before a Jean Aranguran finish at the rim to take a 40-38 lead with 13:46 to play. It quickly became a 3-point shootout as the two teams exchanged three ties and four triples apiece as O’Connor brought Stony Brook to within one, 56-55, with 2:31 remaining in regulation. After both teams exchanged defensive stops, Snoddy slammed home a bucket before hitting two more free throws to hold on for the Seawolves’ third conference win. Aranguren posted a team-best 17 points and eight boards, while Plotnikov and Davis added 13 and 11 points, respectively.
