The BYU football team came close to a Big 12 championship game appearance and a College Football Playoff berth in 2024.

Will it be able to reach those feats this season?

How many wins will the Brigham Young football team get in 2025?

Here’s an early game-by-game win-loss prediction for the Cougars for their 2025 schedule, beginning with a home game against Portland State on Aug. 30 and concluding with a home game against UCF on Nov. 29.

The Cougars will also host Stanford, West Virginia, Utah and TCU this season. They will play at East Carolina, Colorado, Arizona, Iowa State, Texas Tech and Cincinnati, looking to improve on their 11-2 overall record and 7-2 Big 12 record in 2024.

Aug. 30: Portland State at BYU

FCS opponent Portland State went just 3-8 in 2024. A BYU loss in the season opener would be stunning.

Game prediction: BYU 45, Portland State 17

BYU record prediction: 1-0

Sept. 6: Stanford at BYU

Stanford also won just three games last season. The Cougars will be a huge favorite against the Cardinal in this game.

Game prediction: BYU 35, Stanford 20

BYU record prediction: 2-0

Sept. 20: BYU at East Carolina

East Carolina went 8-5 last season and 5-3 in the AAC. BYU will be too much for the Pirates, even on the road, improving to 3-0 on the season.

Game prediction: BYU 33, East Carolina 21

Sept. 27: BYU at Colorado

These teams faced off last season in the Alamo Bowl, and it wasn’t much of a contest in the Cougars’ 36-14 win. We expect a much closer result in Boulder, Colorado.

Oct. 3: West Virginia at BYU

West Virginia could surprise in the Big 12 this season, but it’s a long trip from Morgantown to Provo.

Game prediction: BYU 30, West Virginia 23

BYU record prediction: 5-0 (2-0 Big 12)

Oct. 11: BYU at Arizona

This game could bring an intense atmosphere to Arizona Stadium. The Cougars have Big 12 title hopes and a very good defense that will stymie Noah Fifita and the Wildcats.

Game prediction: BYU 27, Arizona 14

BYU record prediction: 6-0 (3-0 Big 12)

Oct. 18: Utah at BYU

Last season BYU was 8-0 when it went into Salt Lake and escaped with a 22-21 win over the Utes. This season, we have the Cougars being 6-0 entering the Holy War. Utah will remember last season.

BYU record prediction: 6-1 (3-1 Big 12)

Oct. 25: BYU at Iowa State

Are people sleeping on Iowa State? The Cyclones are seventh in early Big 12 football odds. This game could be a classic.

Nov. 8: BYU at Texas Tech

Texas Tech could be a darkhorse Big 12 title contender. The trip to Lubbock is not an easy one. We have the Cougars picking up a second Big 12 Conference loss.

BYU record prediction: 7-2 (4-2 Big 12)

Nov. 15: TCU at BYU

TCU quietly went 9-4 last season and won its final four games. This game could be a pivotal one in the Big 12.

Game prediction: BYU 24, TCU 23

BYU record prediction: 8-2 (5-2 Big 12)

Nov. 22: BYU at Cincinnati

The Cougars can’t afford a late-season loss to the Bearcats if they want to stay in contention for the Big 12 title game late in 2025. We don’t think they will fall at Cincinnati.
